Group Psychotherapy & Support Groups

While support groups and group psychotherapy both offer a space for connection, they serve different purposes. A support group can be peer-led or facilitated by a professional and it focuses on sharing personal experiences, coping strategies, and providing emotional support. Group psychotherapy is a structured form of therapy led by a professional licensed clinician to help participants work through challenges using evidenced-based therapeutic techniques. Group therapy typically targets clinical treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, etc.

Which One is Right for You?

  • If you’re looking for shared experiences, peer support, and a sense of community, a support group may be the best fit.

  • If you need professional guidance, structured therapy, and clinical intervention, group psychotherapy may be more appropriate.

Both options can be beneficial depending on your needs. If you're unsure which is right for you, consider speaking with a mental health professional.
